Your Period Is a Health Signal: What Your Cycle Could Be Telling You.

Your period can tell you a lot about your health.

Changes in your cycle, PMS, painful periods, spotting, heavy bleeding or feeling completely wiped out before your period can all be useful information about what’s happening in your body.

And while some symptoms are common, common doesn't always mean normal for you.

Your cycle is influenced by more than your hormones

Hormones don't work in isolation.

Your menstrual cycle can be influenced by:

  • Nutrition and nutrient status

  • Stress

  • Sleep and recovery

  • Gut health

  • Blood sugar balance

  • Exercise and energy availability

  • Your overall health and lifestyle

Which is why simply looking at one hormone result doesn't always tell the full story.

What might your symptoms be telling you?

PMS that takes over your month

Mood changes, cravings, bloating, headaches, breast tenderness and irritability can all occur around your cycle.

But if PMS is significantly affecting your work, relationships or quality of life, it's worth looking at why.

Painful periods

Some period pain is common.

But severe or worsening pain shouldn't simply be something you're expected to put up with.

Your symptoms deserve to be properly explored.

Changes to your cycle

A cycle becoming shorter, longer, heavier, lighter or more unpredictable can happen for many reasons.

Stress, changes in weight, nutrition, hormones and other health factors can all play a role.

Where nutrition can come in

Your body needs the right building blocks to support hormone production, metabolism and overall health.

That doesn't mean you need another restrictive diet or a cupboard full of supplements.

It means looking at what you're actually eating, what your body needs and where there may be gaps.

Sometimes the answer is surprisingly simple.

Sometimes we need to investigate further.

And sometimes testing can help

If your symptoms and health history suggest there's more to uncover, functional testing or more detailed blood work may provide additional information.

The important thing is not testing everything.

It's asking the right questions first.

Start listening to the pattern

Your period isn't just something that happens to you every month.

It's information.

The timing, symptoms, changes and patterns can all help build a bigger picture of your health.

And that's how I work with women — looking beyond one symptom or one test result and considering your hormones, gut, nutrition, lifestyle, stress and health history together.

Because you shouldn't have to simply put up with feeling rubbish every month.

Your symptoms are worth listening to.
